The 2009-10 PRR trail system is now 100% open! Please obey all signage. On trail 143 from Jct. 2238 for several miles the club has built a narrow trail to the side of the road, please stay on this trail as there will be many logging trucks coming thru and any confrontations could be cause to shut the trail down we have already had some issues. After thru this section the plowed logging road will be shared with snowmobiles and logging trucks for a mile or 2 please stay to the side of the trail the signs direct you to, and 10 mph. Another logging operation is on Indian Stream road from jct. 2702 at roaring brook trail 142 north for several miles. Please remember these are logging roads you are snowmobiling on not the other way around the trucks have the right you have the privelage!
Please pick up a new map as several major trails are closed or re routed this season. Magalloway trail 112 from Smith Brook to trail 143 by Garfield Falls is CLOSED this season for logging, and middle branch trail 137/143 from Magalloway to trail 20 will be closed for logging this season.

We are off to a cold and snowy winter so far. Pittsburg continues to get its ‘mystery’ snowfalls which leave a dusting to several inches of snow almost daily. Mid to late December brought very cold temps which helped freeze the ground and chill the lakes. It is picture perfect, with the snow clinging to the trees. Come enjoy some riding! You may not want to return home, but the harsh reality is you probably have to go back to work sometime.
The Clubhouse office grand opening and annual turkey feed is Jan. 2, don’t miss this event it’s a yearly tradition, and added this year we’ll have music and dancing/ fun evening after the turkey feed.
The first vintage race of the season is almost upon us if you cannot make this race do not fret, you have 4 more chances to catch a race this year. Check the new vintage race website (www.thegreatnorthwoodssnowmobilerace.com) for dates and other pertinent race info. Please remember we can always use more help for race day, so don’t be shy, come on up and ask - we’ll be glad to give you something to do. We have a Vintage raffle sled again this season, a beautiful 73 Polaris 295 fan ready to race. Please contact the club for tickets; they will also be on sale at each of the races.
Speaking of raffles- It’s not too late, if you have not purchased yours yet - raffle tickets for the 2010 MXZ TNT 500ss available online at www.pittsburgridgerunners.org, at many of the events we attend, local businesses or by calling the office (538-1142) most weekdays 8-11am.
PRRSC up and coming events include: January 9, Pittsburg Vintage races; February 6, Colebrook Vintage Race; February 20, PHS Class of 2010 Poker-Run starting at 9am.; February 27, PRR annual Steak Feed and Raffle Drawing will take place at the clubhouse, starting at 5pm.
Logging operations are going to be in full swing this year. Remember when your out there that we are a guest on the properties that hold the snowmobile trails. Landowners have the right to log their properties, and give us the privilege of using their property for our sport. Without them the trail system would not exist. So please, obey all signs for logging operations. They will be clearly marked whether closed or shared by snowmobiles and wheeled vehicles.
The Craft Fair did well this year despite the snowfall, lack of power and water. Spirits in the club house were not dampened; many braved the elements to check out the local crafts. Thank you to Helga and her many helpers for coordinating this event.
A special thank you to Sue and Bob Gaudette for volunteering to work the Warming Hut again this season. The warming hut is open Saturdays from 10am – 3pm beginning on January 9, 2010. Stop by to warm up, get a yummy home-made bowl of soup or cookies. If you are interested in volunteering to help at the warming hut please contact the club.
Till next time - Get out and ride!
