Spring 2010 Message by C. Howe

Pittsburg was blessed this winter with just enough snow, good weather and lots of snowmobilers enjoying our fantastic trail system. Sure we had a few blips here and there but overall the winter of 2010 was a great one. Our club is so fortunate to have so many members and a dedicated bunch of volunteers. I’d like to send a special shout out to our “Warming Hut” crew that does an outstanding job dishing out hot food, big smiles and great conversation. They are truly great ambassadors for the Town of Pittsburg and the Ridge Runners and we can’t thank you enough.
Our Annual Steak Feed was a great success and Mark Morrison from Clarksville NH was the lucky winner of the raffle sled, a 2010 MXZ TNT. We’d like to also thank Dasilva Motor Sports, LLC of Moultonborough and Hampstead, NH for their generous donation towards the purchase of the sled.
We had another successful vintage race held at the March Snodeo. It’s great to see all the area clubs like the Colebrook Ski-Bee’s, Umbagog Snowmobile Club, SDR and PRRSC all working so well together. It is a lot of work and requires many volunteer hours to put on these races. Great job everyone!!
The last vintage race will be held on March 27th at the Balsam’s Wilderness Ski Area. The Spring Mountain Madness Rally is a must see-- Closed Course Race, Water Crossing and Mountain Climbing --all with vintage sleds. We have a vintage raffle sled again this season, a beautiful 73 Polaris Colt 295 fan ready to race. Please contact the club for tickets or you can buy your lucky ticket at Balsam’s Vintage Race.
Next on the agenda is our annual meeting on April 8th. The evening will start with a Pot Luck Dinner, followed by the meeting. We will be voting in a new slate of Officers, Board of Directors and some By-Law changes.
The end of snowmobile season has turned out to be almost a carbon copy of last year. Not having the heavy snow pack in Pittsburg village and the high traffic areas, it didn’t take much warm March sunshine and mild temperatures to make for tough sledding on those particular trails. But that hasn’t stop all the die-hards from trailering farther north for some great riding and I’m sure there will be riding for several more weeks, weather permitting.
It’s hard to believe that another winter has come and gone. We would like to thank all of our club members, volunteers, groomer drivers and everyone that donated and supported the club this year. It all made for another fantastic snowmobile season in Pittsburg. We could use some help on a few work projects in the future, say on trail clean-up day and possibly a trail work day on a new trail connecting upper Indian Stream Trail over to Halls Stream. We’ll let you know what, where and when with our E News.
Until the next time, I hope everyone has a sensational summer.
Cindy Howe, PRRSC Director

Presidents message late winter

Despite a couple rainy days the end of January the trails held up and we are back to beautifully groomed trails. We want to emphasize the need to take it easy and use care on the trails. There have been many accidents in NH this season. This is a fun, family sport, be watchful of others and take the time to enjoy the sights the North Country has to offer.

The warming hut continues to dish out soup, hotdogs and baked goods on Saturdays 10 am – 3pm. Stop by, warm up and enjoy a cup of cocoa while helping support the trails you ride.

As of this writing our second, and third races of the vintage race series are complete and what great events they were! We continue to see an increase in the number of racers at each event. Wow, this has really grown from the first race in Pittsburg three years ago. It is good to see our returning racers at each event; we have all become part of an extended family of folks who enjoy turning these old sleds into racing machines. We will be at the Snodeo March 6th and the Balsams March 27th for the last two races of the season. Thank you to all the volunteers who work so hard to put these events together. There is a lot of time before the races planning and work the day of to get things off without a hitch. Thank you for your continued support.

School vacations are on, the holidays are behind us, and the steak feed & rafle sled drawing are just around the corner, but that does not mean snowmobile season is over. There is normally still plenty of snow to enjoy through March and into April. Many snowmobilers feel this is the best time of the season to ride, with warmer days and less traffic your crazy not to ride! Enjoy the trails and ride safe.
