Presidents Message Early Winter 09

By this time in the season many of you have begun to think snow and start working on your machines to prepare them for the long snowy season ahead, attending the fall shows is a great way to spend an afternoon and pick up those last minute items you’ve been needing like ski carbides, oil, coats, gloves, snow-pants, etc. Along with this list, if you have not already done so, send in your club membership renewal; do it early to save you time when the snow is flying and all you want to do is ride. Your membership is very important to us and allows us to provide the superb trails we all enjoy.

While we’re on the subject of fall shows we enjoyed two weekends in the southern part of the state in October, one at the NHSA Grass Drags & Water Cross and the other at the Snow Show @ Rockingham Park. It was a pleasure talking with folks about the area and trails. Both shows worked out well for us as they have in the past, and we plan to continue these in the future. Thank you to the volunteers who took the time to man the Club booth at these events. If anyone is interested in helping us out at these or any other events in the future PLEASE let us know your help would be greatly appreciated.

Trail work continues- All major trail repair and rebuild projects are completed for the season which leaves the daunting task of signing 200 miles of wilderness trails before the season can start. As someone put it recently “those funny looking trees with the orange diamond on top are beginning to sprout up all over town”. This can mean only one thing, snowmobile season is just around the corner. Along with signing comes many hours working with landowners, getting permissions, and making sure we’re on the correct side of the property line as well as finding out if the property has been sold and the new owner has any objections or concerns. Yes believe it or not just like the southern part of the state there are some folks that move up into snowmobile heaven and want absolutely nothing to do with snowmobiles, but luckily this hasn’t happened this season. Logging operations are going to be in full swing this year, remember when your out there we are a guest on the properties that hold the snowmobile trails, the landowners have the right to log their properties, and give us the privilege of using the property for our sport, without them the trail system would not exist. So please obey all signs for logging operations. They will be clearly marked whether closed or shared to snowmobiles and vehicles.

The new vintage race website is now up and running with all updated info on new classes and races to be held this season.
www.thegreatnorthwoodssnowmobilerace.com We hope to see you all at the races as we’ve heard stories about past racers and friends coming with double the machines to race more classes. For those of you who have raced at the Pittsburg venue you’ll see a large improvement to the track this season. We have done some track work with tractors and rock rakes, we’ve fixed the banked corner and taken care of the rock issue of the past, as well as widened the track some to make the track safer to pass. Please remember we can always use more help for race day, don’t be shy come on up and ask we’ll be glad to give you something to do. New this year, we’d like you to register your machines as soon as you arrive to give us time to get score boards ready, lineups, and any issues worked out. We will refund your money if your sled is not ready by the time racing starts. We really need your help with this as more classes have been added and we need to run things seamlessly to get racing done before dark. We have a Vintage raffle sled again this season, a beautiful 73 Polaris Colt 295 fan ready to race. Please contact the club for tickets.

Don't forget to join us for the craft fair Saturday Nov. 28 Helga normally has the clubhouse and new addition so full with vendors its busting at the seams with great buys and raffles too. Helga can use any help you can give her to staff this event, the more the merrier so contact the club and we can get you signed up. Also looking for some volunteers for Saturday Nov. 28 to help assemble new belting on one of our 05 Pisten Bullys, as well as some painting of many sign backers. Please contact the club office if you can help out. 538-1142

The proceeds from the Turkey Dinner go toward the club’s scholarship fund.

Tickets are going fast- if you haven’t gotten yours yet- raffle tickets for the 2009 MXZ TNT 500ss available online at www.pittsburgridgerunners.org, at many of the events we attend, or by calling the office most weekdays 8-11am 538-1142.

Just a note we are getting quite a few questions about the race USCC posted on their website which is listed to happen in Pittsburg. PRR looked into this event even forming a committee to find the feasibility of a race like this. We found with all of the other events going on, landowner and financial issues we cannot make this race happen, it would be a large undertaking and not something we are ready for at this point

Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving Catch you on the trails.

this website is impossible to use. We have tried and tried and every time we try to use it, we have to enter a NEW password, it won't accept the old very frustration. We have now joined the Swift Diamond Riders and are able to use their user friendly website.

Hi Richard
I'm sorry you feel that way, honestly this is the first I've heard of this problem and I'll check on it, but I have never experienced it or heard from you about this issue. You do not need to log in to READ posts, the read feature is available to anyone members or not. The only time you need to log in is when you would like to post something. If you continue to have issues just let us know, we have tried from numerous computers the only issues we have encountered is when capitals or spacing is not used properly.
Thanks for your concern
Keith
