My husband and I stayed at Tall Timber's Lodge for our winter get away. The trails that we rode on Friday were pretty nice, we stayed north as suggested...Sat they were aweful, and I am afraid that there not any better now, I know the groomers hadn't been out due to the temps being to warm...I can't imagine it's any colder now with the warmer fronts moving in. Saturday the trails were all wash boards and rough as hell, muddy and lots of water cloer to the gas staions area's. We traveled about 100 miles of that rough terrain...I think my kidneys fell out some where on Rte 143. We had planned our trip for such a long time, and my husband checked daily at all the reports of trails and weather prior to us leaving on our 4 hour adventure! to say the least we were pretty disappointed after all the time, money, and efforts we put into the trip, to find the conditions on the web sites were not all true! I know it is late in the season, so your taking chances, but when you have sorces from up there telling you it's all good to great conditions, we believed that. The location is gorgeous there is no doubt about that, we will make it up again next year but will be looking into a different place to stay for sure, for that experience was disappointing as well! The day we left to head up there(25th) the weather reports said, a foot of snow would be in the air...it rained all the way up...maybe some heavy snow in some area's and we thought once we're passed the Notch, it will be colder and snowier! It wasn't!

Its sad to hear you had a bad time, sounds like Friday was good though. Our trail reporting is very acurate, but our reports are only done on Tuesday and Thursday mornings normally, Please consider that you came up on an unusually warm, high traffic February vacation weekend. We were able to groom Wednesday night, we had 5 groomers out to try grooming Thursday night but they were actually making the trails worse because of the warm and wet conditions. Friday was just not going to work once again was to warm and wet. Saturday night, actually Sunday at 1am the snow firmed up enough and weather was cold enough to groom. We had a lot of work ahead because when trails are as bad as they were its impossible for us to smooth everything out in a 12 hour shift.
We have been out every night since except for Wed. night, it's been in the teens the past couple of nights, and the trails have hardened like a rock. I applaud the groomer operators for changing their schedules around and working through the warm spell, it really messes up your system when your used to starting your 11-12 hour shift at 3pm and you have to change it to start at 1am for several days then go back to the original time just to make people happy. SO just to recap our trails were good to great before you came, the warm weather, rain, and high traffic really took its toll on the system for a few days which is when you were here unfortunately. Since then we have been out grooming, and making people happy again. We were able to get the majority of our system in good to great shape, but if you'll look at the last trail reports I've done you'll notice that the high traffic areas are in only fair shape. Hope this explains things a little better for you, and hope you understand, PRR has nothing to gain for giving inacurate trail conditions we are a not for profit club.
